Referrals

To see one of our oncologists or to be considered for a clinical trial, you will need a valid referral from your General Practitioner (GP) or specialist.

  • GP referrals are valid for 12 months.
  • Specialist referrals are valid for 3 months.

A valid referral is required to receive the correct Medicare rebate.

Your doctor may give the referral to you directly or send it to us electronically. Once received, our team will contact you to arrange an appointment.

Before Your First Visit

After your appointment is scheduled, we will send you:

  • New Patient Letter outlining our practice, your treating practitioners, fees, and location.
  • New Patient Questionnaire so we can understand your medical history, medications, and supports.

Please complete and return the questionnaire before your appointment. If this is not possible, please bring it with you on the day.

You will receive an SMS reminder the day before your appointment. Please confirm your attendance by replying to the message. If you prefer not to receive text reminders, our staff will call you instead.

If you are unable to attend your appointment, please notify us as early as possible so we can offer the time to another patient.

What to Bring

Please bring the following to your appointment:

  • A valid Medicare card
  • Health insurance or DVA card (if applicable)
  • Your referral letter (GP or specialist)
  • Relevant medical records (pathology, radiology results, specialist reports, family history)
  • A list of medications and allergies (or bring your medications)
  • A payment method (Cash, EFTPOS, VISA, MasterCard)

We also encourage you to bring a support person if you wish—many patients find this helpful during discussions regarding diagnosis and treatment options.

On the Day

Please arrive comfortably dressed, as you may need to walk a short distance from parking to our rooms.

Our clinical team, including our Oncology Nurse Practitioner, may also meet with you to support your care plan and coordinate services.

Fees and Billing

Our practice is a private billing service. Accounts are to be settled on the day of consultation.

We can submit your Medicare claim on your behalf, and rebates are usually paid within 24 hours.

Outpatient Appointments

Out-of-pocket fees apply for:

  • Initial consultations
  • Review consultations
  • Management of oral cancer therapies
Inpatient Care (Private Health Funds)

If you are admitted for chemotherapy or inpatient treatment, and you hold adequate private health insurance (held for more than 12 months), your care is typically no-gap for services provided by our oncologists and Oncology Nurse Practitioner.

Your insurer may send you a statement of benefits for your records.

Medications listed on the PBS are usually covered with minimal or no charge.

Other Costs

You may be responsible for:

  • Insurance excess payments
  • Some radiology or pathology services
  • Medications not listed on the PBS

Non-PBS medications are prescribed only following detailed discussion and agreement with your oncologist.

Medicare Safety Net

We encourage all patients to register for the Medicare Safety Net, which can significantly reduce out-of-pocket costs once annual thresholds are reached. More information is available on the Services Australia website or at your nearest Medicare office.
