Dr Usman Hakeem
MBBS, FRACPDr Usman Hakeem is a dedicated Medical Oncologist whose career reflects a deep commitment to advancing cancer care through clinical excellence, research, and innovation. He completed his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) at the National University of Sciences and Technology, Pakistan, before embarking on specialist oncology training in Western Australia at leading tertiary centres, including Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital and Fiona Stanley Hospital.
Usman later undertook a Clinical Research Fellowship in Early Phase Clinical Trials, gaining specialised expertise in first-in-human and novel therapeutic studies and strengthening his passion for international, multi-centre research collaboration. He also broadened his experience in Medical Oncology by spending time in Victoria to gain diverse exposure across different clinical settings.
His extensive training is supported by successful completion of two Specialty Certificate Examinations for Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (UK) in Acute Medicine and Medical Oncology. He holds a Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) in Medical Oncology.
Usman currently serves as a Research Medical Oncologist at one of Western Australia’s leading clinical trial units, based at Hollywood Private Hospital, where he plays a key role as Principal Investigator and Sub-Investigator on a range of early- phase and first-in-human clinical trials. In addition to his research work, he also practices as a consultant medical oncologist across multiple hospitals and cancer care centres in Western Australia, delivering comprehensive and compassionate oncology care.
His clinical interests span a broad spectrum of malignancies, including gastrointestinal, hepatobiliary, urogenital, lung, skin, and mesothelioma cancers. He has a particular focus on tumour-agnostic therapies, early phase clinical trials, precision oncology, and emerging immunotherapeutic and targeted treatment modalities.
Usman is an active member of several key professional organisations, including the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO), and the Medical Oncology Group of Australia (MOGA), reflecting his commitment to continuous professional development and global engagement in cancer research.
