Her role is to reduce the impact of the disease and its complications while providing patient-centred care and supporting patients and their families throughout their journey. This complimentary service is available to Hollywood Private Hospital patients with high-risk Stage II (B/C), Stage III, and Stage IV melanoma.
Patients benefit from personalized nursing care, education on melanoma and treatment options, and ongoing support across various stages of their care, including pre- and post-surgical periods, neoadjuvant (pre-operative) and adjuvant (post-operative) therapies, radiotherapy, and advanced melanoma treatments including clinical trials.
The Specialist Melanoma Nurse builds therapeutic relationships with melanoma patients and their carers, fostering trust, improving communication, and empowering them to navigate the complexities of treatment and care. They also strive to enhance health outcomes and quality of life. Additionally, the nurse collaborates with the wider clinical team, offering referrals to community nursing, palliative care, social work, clinical psychology, allied health professionals, or local and rural services as clinically indicated, ensuring patients receive comprehensive, optimal care.
